Switching to the Hallelujah Diet:
Slow Transition or Cold Turkey?

You've Made Your Decision

That's it! You've had it! You've decided you're switching to the Hallelujah Diet.

You know if you keep on eating the way you are, you are heading toward a lifetime of pain and sickness.

Or perhaps you're already dealing with health issues that are making you sick and tired or fat and tired. And you are sick and tired of it!

But Where Do You Start?

As with anything in a Christian's life, the place to start is with prayer. Please pray for God's guidance in switching to the Hallelujah Diet.

Think about why you want to switch to the Hallelujah Diet. Take some time to write down all the reasons. Try to be as specific as possible. Include all the benefits that will result from making this diet and lifestyle change.

Here's an example to help get you started...

Reasons to SwitchHow I FeelBenefit I Will Get
I am 50 lbs. overweight.I feel so fat. I am sick of wearing a size 20.I will get to my ideal weight of 120. Just think- wearing a size 10 again!
I have high cholesterol. It's 250.I am afraid I am going to have a heart attack or stroke. My cholesterol will be normal.
I have no energy.I don't feel like doing anything. I go to work and come home and just sit.Lots of energy. I want to be able to walk miles and bike with my husband.

Getting this all on paper- the health problems you have (or don't want to have), the way you feel now and how great you could feel- will help strengthen your motivation for switching to the Hallelujah Diet.

Where You Are Now vs. Where You need to Be

Some of us are so far away from health eating that we need to make some major life changes in switching to the Hallelujah Diet.

And many of us are so totally confused with all the conflicting information out there that we really have no idea what health eating even is anymore!

To give yourself an idea of what changes you will need to make, take some time to look at where you are now and where you need to be.

Here is where I was and what I needed to do to switch to the Hallelujah Diet...

Meal of the DayMy Typical EatingHallelujah Diet PlanWhat I Needed to Change
BreakfastCoffee, oatmeal with raisins, milk and brown sugar, toast with butter, followed by a good dose of indigestion!BarleyMaxGive up my favorite meal of the day- breakfast!
LunchToasted tomato, onion and cheese sandwich, chips and cookie, CokeBarleyMax followed by an all-raw meal of fruit or vegetablesI needed to give up dairy, processed foods, sugar and start eating fresh fruit and vegetables.
SupperGrilled steak, potatoes with butter and onion, corn on the cob with plenty of butter, ice cream, CokeBarleyMax followed by a large salad and then vegan cooked foods, not processed.I needed to give up the meat we raised ourselves, white flour, dairy, more sugar and what! No Ranch dressing??
BeveragesCoke, milk, coffee- I had already given up beer.Carrot and other fresh juice, filtered or distilled waterOh no! No Coke??

As you can see, I needed to make some major changes! I typically ate very few fresh fruits and vegetables. In fact, from childhood on, I could go for weeks without anything 'raw'. We had a garden but I cooked pretty much everything we grew!

Next, you need to decide if you want to transition into the Hallelujah Diet or go 'cold-turkey'.

Slow Transition vs. Cold-turkey

If you have a life-threatening illness and know that dietary changes are essential to your survival, go cold-turkey in switching to the Hallelujah Diet.

But if you have time, you can decide between slowly transitioning or going cold-turkey. Here are the pros and cons of both related to dietary concerns...

ConcernSlow TransitionCold-Turkey
CravingsCravings for toxic foods will continue throughout the transition and last until you have been on the diet 100% of the time for awhile.Thought intense at first, cravings for toxic foods will lessen more quickly as your body detoxifies.
DetoxIt may not be as noticeable but you will detox each time and with every food you give up- coffee, sugar, processed food, etc.Not everyone experiences it, but it may be uncomfortable for a few days to a week for some.
Energy LevelLittle noticeable increase as long as you are eating toxic foodsTypically, after the initial detox, there is a noticeable surge in energy.
MoodAn unbalanced, toxic diet can cause depression, anger, and other mood disturbances. As long as you continue to eat this way, you may not notice improvement in your mood.Giving up favorite comfort foods can cause grief- sadness, anger, resentment. However, with the surge of energy you may feel after the initial detox, you may also experience an uplifting of your mood.
Desire for Healthy FoodContinually eating toxic, and processed foods won't give your taste buds the opportunity to enjoy fresh, wholesome, raw foods.Your desire and enjoyment of healthy foods increases as you expose your taste buds and living cells to delicious, unprocessed foods.
Rate of HealingAs long as you eat toxic foods, your progress toward healing will be slow, if anything. It will be a 'one step forward, two steps back' type of progress.Total elimination of toxic food and eating only health- promoting foods coupled with a healthy lifestyle will rapidly rebuild your immune system and accelerate the rate of healing.
Future SuccessBecause the health improvement may be barely noticeable, you have less chance for success unless you can stay highly motivated and actually get to the point where you follow the Hallelujah Diet 100%.I have noticed more long-term success in people switching to the Hallelujah Diet cold-turkey. The exhilarating health and energy they get from eating God's way make them want to jump up and shout, "Hallelujah!"

So, while you pray about switching to the Hallelujah Diet through a slow transition or cold-turkey, there are several things you can do while waiting on God.

Educate yourself about the Hallelujah Diet and Lifestyle. Learn all you can. Check out the resources on the Hallelujah Acres website.

Also, use this time to learn all you can about the body God has given you, how it works, the importance of your immune system and how you can honor the temple of the Living God, your body!

And, finally, invest in a few healthy recipe books and begin experimenting with raw foods and healthy vegan cooked recipes. You may soon find that switching to the Hallelujah Diet is simply delicious!
